| 'Jackets Fall To Falcons |
| |
Saturday at Hunt Arena, the Yellowjackets did
something that they've done just once in their last ten games - they
held a lead. The 'Jackets open and closed the scoring in the
game, unfortunately River Falls scored three times in between and
defeated the 'Jackets 3-2, stretching the Yellowjackets' winless
streak to seven games (0-5-2).
With four games to play, the 'Jackets are still within striking
distance of the teams directly in front of them, though it looks
like home ice in the playoffs is out of the question.
The 'Jackets got on the board first when Jameson Lundquist
(Jr. Superior, Wisconsin) picked up a rebound to the left
the net and beat River Falls goaltender Bo Storozuk at 13:36 of the
first period. It was the first goal as a Yellowjacket for
Lundquist, who transferred to Superior after playing two seasons at
St. Scholastica. River Falls tied the game on a power play in
the second period. Jason Yuel pounced on a rebound in the slot
and beat Bryan Dalbec (So. Superior, Wisconsin) to
make it 1-1 at 14:17 of the period. Chris Wilson (Sr.
Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) hit a post in the second
period, and put another puck off the outside of the post in the
third.
In the third, the Falcons scored twice in 83 seconds to put the game
out of reach. Caleb Wolfgram scored an unassisted goal at
15:38 to make it 2-1. Later, Tyler Czuba picked up a rebound
to the left of the goal and tapped it home for a power play goal at
17:01 to make it 3-1. The Yellowjackets closed the scoring
late in the game when Jesse Junkermeier (Jr. Minnetonka,
Minnesota) scored a shorthanded goal off a faceoff to make
it 3-2. It was the third goal of the year for Junkermeier.
The game featured an altercation just 1:46 into the game and
included several penalties on each team. The most severe was
levied against Justin Faryna (Fr. Calgary, Alberta),
who was given a five-minute fighting major and a game
disqualification, meaning that he will be unavailable for Friday's
game against Stevens Point. In all, the Yellowjackets took 12
penalties for 35 minutes, while River Falls took eight for 19
minutes. The 'Jackets went 0-4 on the power play while River
Falls went 2-7.
Dalbec finished with 24 saves, while Storozuk finished with 32 stops
for River Falls.
The 'Jackets return home for their next three games, beginning with
Friday's game at Wessman Arena against Stevens Point. Game
time on Friday will be 7:05 p.m. and can be heard live locally on
KUWS 91.3 FM, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m. If
you are outside the local listening area, you can tune in on the web
at www.ifan.tv. Jon Garver
will have the call. |
