| Bina, Fletcher To Wear The C's |

Senior defenseman Brian Bina and senior forward
Tyler Fletcher have been chosen to captain the 2009-10 version of
the Yellowjackets, the coaching staff recently announced.
"Both of the players stand for everything that is good about being a
Yellowjacket," Head Coach Dan Stauber said. "They don't take
nights off on the ice. They work hard every day in practice,
in the weight room and in the classroom. We're very excited to
have two fine young men like Brian and Tyler lead our team."
They will be co-captains, meaning each player will wear a "C" on his
jersey. It's the first time since 1998-99 that the team hasn't
had one captain and at least one alternate. That year, Chris
Chelios and Steve Wiggins shared the leadership duties.
"It just works out that way sometimes," Stauber said. "The
staff felt strongly about these two players, but more importantly
the team felt strongly about them as well. We felt the best
thing to do would be to make them co-captains."
Bina, a native of Grand Forks, North Dakota, enters his senior
season as one of the most consistent defensemen on the team.
He has appeared in 81 of a possible 84 games in his career, scoring
7 goals and 33 points. He has seen his totals increase every
season, scoring eight points as a freshman and 12 as a sophomore,
before hitting a career high with 13 points last year. He had
a career-high four goals as a sophomore. Bina was an assistant
captain last season.
Fletcher came to the Yellowjackets as a transfer, playing his
freshman season at Marian University. In two years with the
'Jackets, the Calgary, Alberta native has scored six goals (all of
them last season) and 21 points in 56 games. The big-bodied
forward quickly established himself as one of the Yellowjackets most
consistent and hardest-working forwards after arriving from Marian.
The two seniors will help lead their team into action for the first
time on Friday, October 30, when they host UW-River Falls at Wessman
Arena. |
