The NCHA has announced their all conference
teams and a pair of Yellowjackets have been honored.
Chris Wilson (Sr. Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) and
Brian Bina (Sr. Grand Forks, North Dakota) have been named
to the all conference first team.
"It's always tough when you have the kind of season we had to look
at the individual honors, but in this case, I'm very happy for the
awards that were given to Brian and Chris," said Yellowjacket Head
Coach Dan Stauber. "Both of these guys earned this by having
solid seasons as seniors."
Talon Berlando (Jr. Drumheller, Alberta) was named
honorable mention.
Bina, a co-captain, finished his senior season with two goals and
seven points while playing all 27 games. He played major
minutes on a nightly basis, a key cog in the defense corps as he saw
the ice in all game situations. "Brian was night a big
defenseman, but he always played big for us," Stauber said.
"We felt comfortable putting him out on the ice in all situations
and he came through for us in all situations. He was a
big-time player for us, not just this season, but in all four of his
years here."
Wilson finished the season with 13 goals and 33 points on the year,
leading the Yellowjackets in points and assists. He was the
lone player on the team to receive player of the week honors in
2009-10. "Chris is a very good, very dynamic forward," Stauber
said. "You don't see players with his skill and abilities come
along too often. You always knew what you were going to get
because he stepped on the ice and brought it every single night.
I would have loved to have had him in my lineup for all four years.
With his skill, he could have made a run at the top ten all-time in
scoring here."
"Like I said, it's tough to think about some of the individual
honors when the season turned out like it did for us, but I'm proud
of these guys and everything they did for us at UW-Superior."
Former Yellowjacket Joel Gaulrapp, who scored three goals and four
points in eight games in 2006-07 before transferring to UW-Stout,
was named NCHA Player of the Year. |
