| 'Jackets Picked 3rd In NCHA |

The NCHA conducted its annual coaches poll, and
the defending conference champion Yellowjackets have been picked to
finish third in the conference, behind UW-Stout and St. Norbert.
The Blue Devils knocked off the 'Jackets in the Peters Cup finals
last season en route to their first NCAA Frozen Four. The
Yellowjackets surprised many with their championship run last year,
as they were chosen to finish in fifth place last season.
"I think third is probably where we should be at this point," said
Yellowjacket Head Coach Dan Stauber. "When you look at what we
lost from last season, there are some questions as to what kind of
team we will be this year. I think we have all the tools to
win it again, but there are questions."
Questions such as who will replace the leadership lost with a large
senior class? Who will be able to shoulder the load following
the loss of All-American goaltender and NCHA Player of the Year Chad
Beiswenger? Questions that will be answered soon enough.
"We have questions, but so does everyone at this point in the year
so we are no different than anyone else," Stauber said.
Stout received five or six first place votes, with St. Norbert
getting the other top vote. After the top three, UW-Stevens
Point was chosen to finish fourth, followed by UW-River Falls, St.
Scholastica and UW-Eau Claire.
"Everyone lost players. Everyone lost skill. Everyone
lost leadership," Stauber said. "Stout is a dangerous team as
we saw last year. They did lose a really good goaltender, but
the rest of their team comes back almost completely. They will
be a force out here for sure.
"This league will be a toss up and it will come down to the final
week, just like it seems to do every year. There are no weak
teams. Top to bottom, night after night, the games are so
competitive. To win this league, you truly do have to earn
it." |
