The University of Wisconsin-Superior has
teamed with online broadcast content distributor America One to
carry the video broadcasts of men's hockey home games in
2010-11. The pay-per-view system will be in place when the
Yellowjackets play their home opener at Wessman Arena against
St. Thomas on Saturday evening.
America One, formerly B2 Networks, covers a
wide-range of college and professional sports on the web, and
counts college conferences such as Hockey East, the Eastern
Collegiate Athletic Conference and the Western Collegiate Hockey
Association as partners. Closer to home, the University of
Minnesota-Duluth and Bemidji State University have used the
system for several seasons.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to
partner with America One and have them broadcast our men's
hockey games online," Athletics Director Steve Nelson said.
"They are a major player in the online broadcast game and they
will deliver the quality to our online content that we are
seeking."
All home games during the regular season will
be available on a pay-per-view basis for $7. A broadcast
season pass is available for $60. Home playoff games will
be available for $8. Audio for the broadcasts will be
provided by KUWS radio. For those that just wish to listen
to the game and not purchase a season pass, a free audio stream
will be available.
"This affords us a chance to take our online
broadcasts to a new level. It also puts us in a position
to have more control over the broadcasts and potentially
increase revenues through the passes being sold and sponsorship
opportunities," Nelson said.
UW-Superior is the first school in the WIAC
to bring America One on as an online partner.
