Yellowjacket Recruit: Jordan Menke

The Yellowjacket coaching staff has announced that Jordan Menke, a forward who spent the last three seasons playing with the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), has committed to the team for the 2010-11 season.  Menke is expected to add offense to a team that lost nearly 40% of its goal output from last season.

"Jordan brings a lot to the table for our team and we're glad to have him," said Yellowjacket Head Coach Dan Stauber.  "He has the ability to create offense, which is something he will need to do from the beginning for us.  He also is a tremendous leader in the locker room and we hope he will step up and be one of our leaders right away.  Just because you are a freshman doesn't mean that you can't be a leader, and with as young a team as we will have, there's no reason why a freshman can't be a leader."

Menke, 5-11 and 170 pounds, led the Terriers in scoring last season, posting 20 goals and 44 points in 58 games last season.  He was the recipient of the SJHL's Graham Christie Award, which goes to the player that best displays leadership qualities on his team and in his community.  The previous season, the Shamrock, Saskatchewan native scored 15 goals and 38 points in 56 games for the Terriers.  His first junior season saw him produce three goals and eight points in 25 games.

"Jordan is a complete hockey player.  He's good in the offensive zone and not a liability in his own zone.  He plays the game the right way and he's the kind of player that we want coming into our program," Stauber said.  "We look forward to watching him grow and develop during his four-year career here."

Menke's older brother Justin will be a senior at Ferris State University.  Last season the elder Menke was the seventh-leading scorer for the Bulldogs.  In three seasons for Ferris State, Menke has scored 21 goals and 58 points in 113 games.

Previous Yellowjackets who honed their skills in the SJHL include alumni Mathieu Bonnelly and Ryan Kuntz as well as current Yellowjacket Casey Dion.
